critic of statistics

Today we discussed our own opinions of the achievement gap statistics.I personally thought that there would be more African Americans in public schools because of were public schools are located.I was very surprised to find out that African American students only make up 50% of graduating students, but then again I see these examples in my school every day when Latinos and blacks act out and refuse to work, but there are no whites inside my school so I wouldn't know hoe to prove this.I also think that we make most of our new york city public schools because of the area that they are located in but that's not the case either,Latinos actually make most of our public schools,Latinos are around mostly all neighborhoods and there are a lot of us well that's what I think.I learned.....well what I concluded........I concluded that blacks and Latinos are one of the smallest of races who are likely to succeed in life and school. I'm going to change that statistic.........-Melody:)

  1. I agree, with that because there's not that many African Americans and Latinos that graduate. There are more Asians and Whites that have higher grades then Latinos and African Americans.Sometimes the latino girls have problems because they get pregant and then they drop out of school.Afican Americans drop out because they have problems at home so it affects their school work.

  2. Very thought-provoking post. One correction - the graduation rate for African Americans in the United States is around 50%, not 13.4%. However, 50% is still very low, considering that 76% of whites graduate high school.

You ask an interesting question about where public schools are located and if that affects who attends public schools. I'm curious to see what your classmates think.
